Esc.rec. sampler #1 is a compilation with 11 tracks by esc.rec. artists. The artists on this sampler have at this time not actually released their work on esc.rec. yet, but all of them are planning to do so in the near future. From this perspective esc.rec. sampler #1 can be viewed as an appetizer of things to come or to acquire a taste for some of the future esc.rec. releases. And at a nice price of only 2 euro this just might be the introduction you’re looking for. The first 100 copies come in a luxurious metal box, so get them while they’re hot.

Esc.rec. sampler #1 was festively introduced to the masses at the very first esc.rec. label night. This took place while cruising on the river IJssel (the Netherlands) with a massive party boat. The esc.rec. label night featured mind boggling performances by dj Double, Marius, slo-fi and dj Harco. They sure rocked the boat the right way! Other acts that night included Radioactive Man, Coparck, Geigercounting, Patricia’s Greatest Synthesizer Hits and Pixelpasta.

Van de maker(s) van de J’ee-haw! compilatie (2003) wederom een overzicht van elektronicatalent. Wat meer onbekende namen dan bij het eerste project, maar daardoor niet minder verrassend. Het label/platform esc.rec. is een samenwerking tussen Harco Rutgers en Bart Folmer en beoogt met deze cd alvast een vooruitblik op de komende releases te geven. Vooral in het eerste gedeelte van de 11 nummers lijkt het alsof dezelfde maker onder een paar pseudoniemen aan het werk is. Lichte, atmosferische breakbeats zijn kenmerkend voor het geheel, met hier en daar meeslepende zang, of een knallend harde funky uitschieter.

Eleven tracks by eleven bands (I think, maybe there is somebody who works under a variety of names) of which I know #slo-fi (sometimes known as ~slo-fi or /slo-fi). The compilation opens with a couple of intelligent dance musics by acts such as Marius, Radion, Dreamspeed and Parkside, the latter incorporating a nice bunch of vocals too. All of these can be classified under the banner of Warp. #slo-fi’s straight forward techno track breaks the release and after that things get more varied with some more experimental material by Maga or the happy hardcore by Toxic Chicken. A nice compilation with some fine music and a most promising start for this label.

Een nieuw Nederlands label geeft een voorsmaakje van zijn kunnen met een ijzeren doosje dat een compilatie cd bevat. Labelbaas, installatiebouwer, meubelmaker en dj Harco Rutgers schuilde eerder al onder de breedgerande cowboyhoeden van het ‘J’ee-Haw’ project. De elf deelnemers glijden zacht in het oor met een dans op het slappe koord tussen breakbeats, haperende elektronica en postrock. Transfolmer (hoor ‘Mind The Gap 49’) is de minst onbekende zwevende naam in een vlucht geestesgenoten als Marius, Radion, Dreamspeed en Parkside. Met Dion en #Slo-Fi betreden we zuiverdere elektronische territoria en uitblinker Maga drijft op veelsoortige percussie. Toxic Chicken zorgt voor lichtvoetige kakelbeats en Xaf programmeert zijn machines op de random mode. Voor een experimentele compilatie is de aaibaarheidsfactor onverwacht hoog, maar wie houdt van melodieuze en ritmische gitaarelektronica vindt op deze sampler heel wat potentieel.
