Rather than a post-genre or heavy-songwriting - or whatever - aesthetic, the real content of 'trying to be born before dying' lies in the conflicting work/artist relationship. In these songs, nothing can be said, like a child who can only babble to be understood or cry to communicate pain. It is precisely through this distorted and imperfect communication that this release finds its voice. Composed several years ago, it had to navigate a daedalus of concerns about time, representation, and recognition before finally emerging from the hard drive where it had been buried alive. Unburdened by the problematic nature of latency, for which everything expires as soon as it takes a definitive form, the release of this album - the first for 5299NOIR - is a deal with the stinking process by abandoning himself to life.

Andrea Bambini aka 5299NOIR is a pianist, composer, producer and DJ based in Berlin.

"Lasciata alle spalle l’esperienza con il progetto impro/jazz Mr Noe, il pianista, compositore, produttore e DJ di stanza a Berlino Andrea Bambini debutta come 5299NOIR con Trying to be born before dying. Pubblicato dalla piccola etichetta olandese di Harco Rutgers, la Esc.rec., masterizzato da Giuseppe Ielasi, Trying to be born before dying fa della comunicazione distorta e imperfetta la sua voce. Una combinazione micidiale di elettronica, glitch ed estetica cantautoriale destrutturata nel quale i frammenti vocali si nascondono dietro ritmi martellanti trasformandosi in un atto liberatorio. Alleggerito dalla problematicità della latenza, per cui tutto scade non appena prende una forma definitiva, l’uscita di questo album è un patto con il fetido processo dell’abbandono alla vita. L’espressione musicale di 5299NOIR è incentrata sul dialogo tra digitalismo amorfo ed essenziali ritmiche elettroacustiche usate come punteggiatura. Mentre le percussioni rimbalzano come particelle, nella traccia d’apertura, The tailor, il nostro maneggia la materia sonora tramutandola in un carillon fantascientifico. La voce lancinante di 5299NOIR affiora in The nude, una canzone genuinamente apocalittica scandita da una bassline sfrigolante e ansiogena punteggiata da rumori di fondo che contribuiscono a sporcare e rendere ruvida la produzione minacciosa e febbrile alla The Bug. Tutt’altro mood quello di Arc, una canzone onirica disegnata dagli arpeggi ipnagogici e hyper pop dei synth sui quali si poggia la voce leggera. A far vibrare il brano ci pensano le percussioni frattali sincopate che fungono da equilibratori tra i sintetizzatori e la voce. Trying to be born before dying si presenta come un flusso mutevole di toni e atmosfere, evolvendosi ad ogni brano. Analizzando per esempio Hypertrophic yellow si nota come la quarta traccia riprende l’atmosfera ansiogena di The nude sostituendo la bassline con l’ipnotico arpeggio della chitarra elettrica di Stlgn. Quest’ultima è accompagnata da intricate manipolazioni elettroniche che conferiscono al brano un aspetto industriale. Trying to be born before dying riflette la visione di 5299NOIR di creare un linguaggio mutevole attraverso sonorità futuristiche emerse dal rapporto conflittuale tra opera e artista."
