Janne Eraker and Ivar Grydeland with Funkverkehr - the tenth of 10
singles from the tap dance album Movements for Listening!
Ivar Grydeland with his prepared pedal steel guitar and Janne Eraker with her prepared tap floors meet in this musical dialogue full of textures, grooves and unexpected sounds, all recorded in the cozy Ugla Lyd by Morten Qvenild. It became a beautiful meditation, fitting for the autumn. Funkverkehr (German for “radio traffic between two stations”) is the first ever recording of Grydeland and Eraker. Grydeland is also a part of the brand new Janne Eraker Ensemble, which will go on tour in Europe in October, leading up to the vinyl release concert at Gamle Munch in Oslo on November 3.
Ivar Grydeland is a Norwegian musician and composer, residing in Nesodden. He plays the electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, pedal steel and electronics. Grydeland is known from the ensembles Huntsville (Hubro and Rune Grammofon) and Dans les arbres (ECM, Hubro, Sofa), and has also played with artists and musicians like Hanne Hukkelberg, Morten Qvenild/Frode Grytten, Jim O’Rourke, Thurston Moore, Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche.
Daan Botlek is a visual artist from the Netherlands. He created the cover of the double vinyl record and the ten digital singles. These are all unique murals made in his atelier in Rotterdam, as a part of his artistic project called Primitive Practice.
Janne Eraker is a tap dancer based in Norway. She has roots in many places; born in Germany, raised in Norway, educated and started a family in the Netherlands. Also her dancing has many roots, starting with Balkan folk dances, swinging by competition dancing, musicals, contemporary and modern dance, and now fermenting all of it into her tap dancing. Eraker is fascinated by the sound of tap dance, and has worked a long time to create all kinds of music with it. Her work spans from improvised concerts to choreographed dance pieces, collaborating with a wide range of artists. In 2022 she released her first album Gol Variations with the trio One Small Step. As a performer she also dances in the Sebastian Weber Dance Company in Germany.
