Janne Eraker and Hans Martin Rundberg Austestad with Galgeberg - the seventh of 10 singles from the groundbreaking tap dance album Movements for Listening!
Banjo, voice and soft shoes: it actually is an old combination! Eraker uses tap dance techniques, but aims to create a groove that sounds like the percussive folk dances from the Appalachian mountains. Rundberg Austestad hums along, playing his new composition Galgeberg (Gallow’s mountain), which takes its title from the location of the recording. Together they roll on in some kind of circular dance, where the melody alternately lands on the down- and upbeat.
Hans Martin Rundberg Austestad, born in 1983, is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and musician. Educated as a jazz singer, Austestad also plays many stringed instruments and is specialized in American and Norwegian traditional music, with extra warmth towards the five string banjo. He has been a freelance musician since 2006, has released 10+ albums with his own material, and within these years he has participated on over 40 albums as a frontman, studio musician, producer and technician. Austestad has been nominated for the Spellemannsprisen three times, for his own records with Løkki and Earlybird Stringband. Deeply inspired by folk music he believes the traditions are only half the truth about what makes folk music folk music. The other half of the truth is that anything can become a song!
Daan Botlek is a visual artist from the Netherlands. He created the cover of the double vinyl record and the ten digital singles. These are all unique murals made in his atelier in Rotterdam, as a part of his artistic project called Primitive Practice.
Janne Eraker is a tap dancer based in Norway. She has roots in many places; born in Germany, raised in Norway, educated and started a family in the Netherlands. Also her dancing has many roots, starting with Balkan folk dances, swinging by competition dancing, musicals, contemporary and modern dance, and now fermenting all of it into her tap dancing. Eraker is fascinated by the sound of tap dance, and has worked a long time to create all kinds of music with it. Her work spans from improvised concerts to choreographed dance pieces, collaborating with a wide range of artists. In 2022 she released her first album Gol Variations with the trio One Small Step. As a performer she also dances in the Sebastian Weber Dance Company in Germany.
